The Bythams with Creeton & Careby Sponsored Ride
This event offers a unique opportunity for riders to enjoy a day’s riding in one of the most beautiful parkland settings, totally free from traffic.
Organised by the parishioners of the four local churches, the ride includes a choice of three routes of 8, 12 or 15 miles long through the grounds of Grimsthorpe Castle which is near Bourne in Lincolnshire. The event is held by the kind permission of the Grimsthorpe and Drummond Castle Trust Ltd.
All the rides are within the grounds – entirely off public roads with tranquil parkland tracks, woods and views of the lake and castle. It is well marshalled and clearly signposted with St John Ambulance present to assist with any incidents.
Each of the routes has been drawn up with the help of the estate manager, himself a keen horseman and allows the opportunity for those who wish to practise over the optional jumps from the now defunct Hunter Trial course which used to take place in the park. These are located some way into the rides allowing the horses to warm up before facing such a challenge.
There is ample space for horseboxes of all sizes in the Gymkhana field where all the routes start and finish and where hot and cold refreshments are available alongside the secretary’s tent.
A rest and refreshment stop is located mid way along the rides where refreshments for riders are provided including home made cakes provided by local parishioners. Toilets are also available here.
All who have ridden the various routes comment on the peace and tranquillity of a truly spectacular setting with the enormous benefit of being totally traffic free, each ride being completely contained within the park itself. Even inclement weather doesn’t dampen their enthusiasm.
While providing a unique opportunity to the equestrian community, the main function of the event is to raise much needed funds to support the fabric of our four local churches. All monies raised are divided equally between the churches as well as an external charity chosen in turn by each of the churches. These have included The Lincolnshire Air Ambulance, the St Matthew Housing Trust, Homestart, MIND, The Carers Sitter Service among many others.
The event takes place on 2nd and 3rd of June for this year between 10.00 am and 2.00 pm, with the latest start for the 14 mile route and jumps at 1.00pm. Entries can be taken on the day or prior to the event by contacting the secretary as detailed.
A rosette is available for every entrant on completion of the ride with prizes for the largest amount of sponsorship money raised for the churches by both adults and those 16 years and under.
The Grand Raffle for the event, which features some phenomenal prizes, will be drawn at 3.30 pm on the day of the ride.
An official photographer will be present on the Sunday for the ride, from whom photographs can be purchased on the day or direct from their website after the event. There will also be an amateur photographer at both the Drive and the Ride. These photos will be available on our FACEBOOK page within a few days of the events. We would be more than happy to provide you with the original by email, however we would appreciate a small donation which will go towards this years chosen charity.
